Are marriage records made public?
Years ago almost all records were made public and that included marriage records. Today, due to all of the privacy laws these records are not as easily accessible to the public. Families can put an announcement in the paper of a marriage but the records are not published by the local governing offices. Certain public notices due exist and must be published in the paper but marriages are not a part of that. If you are looking for records of marriage that predate 1970 you may have better luck in finding them. Since that time privacy laws have been implemented and enacted.
